Virginia Rahilly

Sr. Virginia Rahilly, RDC

Sr. Virginia Rahilly, RDC, (formerly known as Sister Mary Adrian) a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on August 28, 2019.

Sr. Ginny was born in New York 1936, the daughter of Joseph and Regina (Ecay) Rahilly. She attended Resurrection Elementary and High School in Rye, NY. Sister received her BA from Good Counsel College, and an MA from Manhattan College. Sister also received an MS from the College of St. Rose in Albany and an LPN from Elizabeth Seton College.

GCC Reunion - 2019

April 27, 2019

On April 27, 2019, nearly 100 alumnae, representing the Classes of 1948 through 1975, attended the annual Good Counsel College Reunion.  

The classes of 1969 and 1959 received special recognition on their 50th and 60th anniversaries. Thirty-five members of the Class of 1969 and fifteen members of the class of 1958 gathered for this annual Reunion celebration.

Jean Noonan

Sr. Jean Marie Noonan, RDC

Sr. Jean Marie Noonan, RDC, (formerly Sr. Mary Michael), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on March 11, 2019.

Sr. Jean was born in Bronx, NY in 1924, the daughter of Frank and Elma (Oberholtzer) Noonan. She attended St. Thomas Elementary, Pleasantville and St. Mary’s High School, Katonah, NY. Sister received her BA in Biology from Good Counsel College and an MS in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s College in Hartford, CT.

Kathleen McCann

Sr. Kathleen McCann, RDC

Sr. Kathleen McCann, RDC, (formally Sr. Mary Adelaide), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on December 8, 2018.

Sr. Kathleen was born in the Bronx in 1930, the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Fegan) McCann. She attended St. Frances de Chantal Elementary and Cathedral High School. Sister received her BA in English from Good Counsel College and MLSC. from St. John’s University.

Carmella Stapleton

Sr. Carmella Stapleton, RDC

Sr. Mary Carmella Stapleton, RDC, a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on October 13, 2018. Sr. Mary Carmella was born in New Jersey in 1926, the daughter of Bernard and Florence Stapleton. She attended St. Joseph's Elementary and High School. Sister received her BA in History from Good Counsel College and MA in Classical Languages from Villanova University. Sister began her career in teaching at Good Counsel Elementary School and High School moving on to Mt. Carmel School in Elmsford and St. Frances de Chantal in the Bronx.

Caroline Thomas

Sr. Caroline Thomas, RDC

Sister Mary Caroline Thomas, formerly known as Kathryn Thomas, a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully at St. Cabrini Residence on March 19.

Sister was born July 17, 1927 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Cronin) Thomas. She attended Elmira Catholic High School, received her BS in Chemistry from Good Counsel College and a MS in Chemistry from Notre Dame University.

Catherine Yakovleff

Sr. Catherine Yakovleff, RDC

Sr. Catherine Yakovleff, RDC, (formerly known as Sr. Mary Alexis), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on January 29, 2018.

Sr. Catherine was born in the Bronx in 1931, the daughter of Nicholas and Margaret (McKenna) Yakovleff. Sister attended Catholic elementary and high school in the Bronx and graduated from Good Counsel College in White Plains, NY. in 1958 with a BA in English.

Madeline Desel

Sr. Madeline Desel, RDC

Sr. Madeline Desel, RDC (formerly Sr. Mary Antonio), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on November 25, 2017.

Sr. Madeline was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1925, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Hirsh) Desel. Sister attended Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn and graduated from Good Counsel College in White Plains. She received her MA in Business Education from New York University.

Mary Beth Maney, Mary Gerard

Sr. Mary Elizabeth Maney, RDC

Sister Mary Elizabeth Maney, RDC, (formerly Sr. Mary Gerard), a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion for 65 years, died peacefully on July 12, 2016.

Sister Mary Beth, as she was known, was born in Geneva, NY on August 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Scheiberling Maney and John A. Maney. Prior to entering the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, she was employed as a Senior Stenographer in the NYS Dept. of Public Works, entering the community on September 8, 1951 and making final vows on March 6, 1959.

Barbara Heil, DeLourdes Marie

Sr. Barbara Heil, RDC

Sr. Barbara Heil RDC (formerly Sr. DeLourdes Marie) a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died tragically March 4, 2016. Sr. Barbara was born in New York City in 1935, the daughter of Howard and Mary Heil. She attended SS. Joachim & Ann School and Mary Louis Academy in Queens, and received her BA from Good Counsel College, an MA from Villanova and an MSA from Notre Dame University.

Sr. Mary Ellen Bernard, RDC, (formerly Sr. Mary Leonilla), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on October 29, 2015.

Sr. Mary Ellen was born in Jamestown, NY in 1927, the daughter of Teresa and Francis Bernard. She attended St. Bernard’s Elementary School and Good Counsel High School, and received her BA in English from Good Counsel College and MA in English from Fordham University.
