Sr. Mary Carmella Stapleton, RDC, a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on October 13, 2018. Sr. Mary Carmella was born in New Jersey in 1926, the daughter of Bernard and Florence Stapleton. She attended St. Joseph's Elementary and High School. Sister received her BA in History from Good Counsel College and MA in Classical Languages from Villanova University. Sister began her career in teaching at Good Counsel Elementary School and High School moving on to Mt. Carmel School in Elmsford and St. Frances de Chantal in the Bronx. In 1957 she began a long career at Preston High School teaching Religion, History, Latin and Spanish.

She was the moderator of the Alumnae Association and was beloved by all. Sister Laura Donovan, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion said, "Ardent in mission, Sr. Mary Carmella was a gifted woman who generously shared her expertise and loving heart with her family, community, students and friends." Sister Mary Carmella is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion, her nephews Paul Stapleton, Peter Stapleton and her dear sister-in-law Theresa Stapleton. She was predeceased by her brothers, George, John and her sister, Joan.
