Sr. Loretta Carey, RDC

Sr. Loretta Carey, RDC (formerly Sr. Mary Thomas) a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on June 4, 2009 at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains, NY. Sr. Loretta was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 9, 1928, the daughter of Leo F. and Loretta O'Connor Carey. Sister Loretta attended St. Agnes Seminary Elementary and High School in Brooklyn before entering Good Counsel College in White Plains where she obtained the Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1951; and she earned the Master of Arts degree in English from St. John's University in 1955.

Sr. Joan Haley, RDC

Sister Mary Joan Haley, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully at Good Counsel Convent on Friday, April 10, 2009. Sister Mary Joan was born in Brooklyn on June 22, 1917, the daughter of Patrick and Helen (Collins) Haley. Sister Joan had two siblings, Ruth and Thomas who predeceased her. Sister Joan entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1933 and made her final profession on August 15, 1941. She was a graduate of both Good Counsel Academy High School and Good Counsel College. She received an M.S.

Sr. Eileen Donahue, RDC

Sr. Eileen Donahue, RDC

Sister Eileen Donahue (formerly Sr. Mary Eulalia) RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on August 27, 2008 at White Plains Hospital. Sister Eileen was born in Waterbury, Ct. on May 16, 1921, the daughter of Thomas and Anastatia Donahue. Eileen had three siblings, Thomas, Mary and James, who was killed in combat in World War II. Sister Eileen entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1939. She attended Waterbury Catholic High School and received a BA degree from Good Counsel College in 1945.

Sr. Eleanor Mullane, RDC

Sister Eleanor Mullane (formerly Sr. Mary Concepta), RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2008. She was 72. Sr. Eleanor was born in the Bronx, November 26, 1935, the daughter of Stephen P. Mullane and Olga Mrkvicka Mullane. She entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1953 and made final profession on April 6, 1961. Sr. Eleanor attended St. Raymond's Elementary School and Preston High School in the Bronx. She received her B.A. degree in Mathematics from Good Counsel College and an M.A.

Sister Mary Martina Lynch, RDC (Catherine Veronica Lynch), a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died on December 18, 2007 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY.Sister Mary Martina was born in Convent Station, New Jersey on May 5, 1916, the daughter of Patrick and Agnes Regan Lynch. Sister Martina entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on January 6, 1936 and professed final vows on August 12, 1945.Sister Mary Martina attended St. Mary Elementary and High School, Katonah, NY graduating in 1934.

Sr. Mary Gonzaga Hickey, RDC

Sr. Mary Gonzaga Hickey, RDC

Sister Mary Gonzaga Hickey, R.D.C., who served at Kennedy Catholic and Preston high schools, died Dec. 18, 2007. She was 103. Specializing in English literature, she taught at Kennedy Catholic in Somers from 1967 to 1991, when she went to Preston High School in the Bronx as a tutor to students with special language needs in all subjects. She had taught at Preston, 1949-1951. She also taught at St. Mary’s High School, Katonah, 1947-1949 and 1951-1957; St. Lawrence O’Toole School, Brewster, 1927-1947; and Good Counsel Academy, White Plains, 1925-1927.

Sister Mary Berchmans Coyle, RDC (Margaret Ann Coyle), a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died on September 18, 2007 after a short illness. Sr. Mary Berchmans was born in Newark, NJ on April 6, 1920, the daughter of Francis S. Coyle and Aileen M. MacCormack Coyle. Sister Mary Berchmans entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1939 and made final profession on August 15, 1947. Sister Mary Berchmans attended St. Antonius Elementary School and St. Vincent Academy High School in Newark. She received her B.A.

Sr. Annette Champigny, RDC

Sister Annette Champigny, RDC (formerly as Sr. Mary Raphael), a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died on May 12, 2007 in Dobbs Ferry Hospital. Sr. Annette was born October 15, 1925 in Lynn, MA, the daughter of Arthur J. and Berta V. Bourgeois Champigny. Sister Annette entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in September 1948 and made final profession March 6, 1954. Sister Annette attended both Elementary and High School at St. Jean the Baptist in Lynn, MA.

Sr. Marie Eckert, RDC

Sr. Marie Eckert, RDC

Sister Marie Eckert (formerly Sr. Mary Benedicta), R.D.C., a longtime faculty member at Good Counsel College and Pace University, both in White Plains, died on August 16, 2006 at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains. She was 89. She served as a mathematics professor at Pace from 1976 until her retirement in 1992 when she became professor emeritus. She was the recipient of an Outstanding Teacher Award from the university in 1996. She earlier had taught at Good Counsel College, beginning in 1941, before it merged with Pace in 1976.

Sister Mary deLourdes (Gladys) Muench, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died on March 30, 2005 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Sister was born in Milford, New York the daughter of Albert and Alma (Cannon) Muench. Sister Mary deLourdes entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on February 2, 1928 and made her final profession on January 4, 1936. She received a B.A. degree in English from Good Counsel College and the M.A. in English from Fordham University.

Sr. Mary Alphonsus Fisher, RDC

Sister Mary Alphonsus (Antoinette) Fisher, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died on February 4, 2005 at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains. Sister was born in Waterbury, CT the daughter of Ralph and Rose (DiMangano) Fisher. Sister Mary Alphonsus entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on February 2, 1936 and made her final profession on August 13, 1944. She received a B.S. Degree in Biology from Good Counsel College and the MA in Art from Notre Dame University. Sister Mary Alphonsus began her teaching career at Good Counsel Academy and spent 13 years at St.

Sr. Margaret Mary Walter, RDC

Sister Margaret Mary Walter, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion since 1921, died on January 13, 2005 at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains. Sister was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 2, 1904 and enjoyed her 100th birthday celebration last spring. Having entered the Divine Compassion community on December 8, 1921 Sister Margaret Mary made her religious profession August 15, 1925 and her final profession on August 16, 1930. Sister Margaret Mary spent her entire religious life at Good Counsel Convent.
