Sister Eleanor Mullane (formerly Sr. Mary Concepta), RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2008. She was 72. Sr. Eleanor was born in the Bronx, November 26, 1935, the daughter of Stephen P. Mullane and Olga Mrkvicka Mullane. She entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1953 and made final profession on April 6, 1961. Sr. Eleanor attended St. Raymond's Elementary School and Preston High School in the Bronx. She received her B.A. degree in Mathematics from Good Counsel College and an M.A. in Mathematics from Villanova University. Sister also received an M.A. degree in Spiritual Theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 2001. During her years as an elementary school teacher, Sr. Eleanor taught at St. Frances de Chantal School, Bronx, St. Bernard's School, White Plains, Sacred Heart School, Hartsdale and Blessed Sacrament School, Manhattan. In 1968 she was assigned to John F. Kennedy High School, Somers. Following her work at JFK, Sister served as the Director of Institutional Research and Scheduling at Pace University and as adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Iona College.
In addition to her years of teaching, Sr. Eleanor was also involved in Religious Education at Holy Name of Jesus, Valhalla and St. Vito's, Mamaroneck where she was Director of Religious Education. After her retirement to Good Counsel, Sister spent her time in prayer and offered spiritual direction and support through an active phone ministry. Sister Alice Feeley, President of the Sisters of Divine Compassion, said, "Sr. Eleanor's intellectual gifts and deep religious faith have made a difference to all whose lives she touched as teacher and Sister of the Divine Compassion." Sister Eleanor is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion and cousins, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Shaw, E. Windsor, NJ.
