Sister Mary Gonzaga Hickey, R.D.C., who served at Kennedy Catholic and Preston high schools, died Dec. 18, 2007. She was 103. Specializing in English literature, she taught at Kennedy Catholic in Somers from 1967 to 1991, when she went to Preston High School in the Bronx as a tutor to students with special language needs in all subjects. She had taught at Preston, 1949-1951. She also taught at St. Mary’s High School, Katonah, 1947-1949 and 1951-1957; St. Lawrence O’Toole School, Brewster, 1927-1947; and Good Counsel Academy, White Plains, 1925-1927. She was elected to the general administration of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1963 and served until 1967. Born in Jersey City, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1925. She professed final vows in 1933. She received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Good Counsel College in White Plains and master’s degrees in English literature and religious education from Fordham University.
