Sister Theresa Kelley, RDC, formerly known as Sister Mary Edward, a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully at St. Cabrini Residence on February 29.

Sister was born December 12, 1925 in Auburn, NY, the daughter of James and Margaret (Cunnan) Kelley. She attended Holy Family Catholic High School, received her BA from Good Counsel College and an MS in Special Education from the College of New Rochelle. Sister also received certification as a School Administrator and Reading Specialist.

Over her teaching career she taught at Good Counsel Elementary School, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in  Elmsford, St. Bernard’s, White Plains, St. Mary’s in Katonah, St. Anthony’s in West Harrison, Kennedy Catholic in Somers and the Windward School in White Plains.  Sister also worked as a Reading Specialist and was the Director of the St. Tarcisius Center for Religious Education of Children with Special Needs.

Sister Laura Donovan, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, said, “Despite her small stature, Sr. Teresa was a strong and devoted RDC.  Ever thankful for all who responded to her needs, Teresa accepted the limitations of her failing health.  All who visited her at Cabrini were struck by her ready smile and interest in the local events of the nursing home. At the same time, she maintained a high interest in all RDC community events and was ever delighted to learn RDC news.”

Sister is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion and many cousins and friends. Sr. Theresa was predeceased by her sisters, Nancy and Joan.
