Sr. Mary Josepha O’Reilly, RDC, former teacher in the schools staffed by the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died on August 17, 2000 in St. Agnes Hospital. She was 92.

Sister was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 20, 1908, the daughter of Joseph J. and Julia E. O’Reilly. She attended Good Counsel Elementary and Good Counsel High School. Sister received a BA degree from Good Counsel College, White Plains and MS degree from Hunter College, NY.

Sister Mary Josepha entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion February 2, 1933 and pronounced perpetual vows August 15, 1940. During her teaching career she served at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Elmsford, NY; Good Counsel High School, White Plains, NY; St. Lawrence O’Toole School, Brewster, NY; St. John the Evangelist School, Mahopac, NY; St. Bernard School, White Plains, NY; and Good Counsel Elementary School, White Plains, NY until her retirement in 1991.

Sister Alice Feeley, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion said, “Sister Mary Josepha was a vibrant and beloved teacher who never lost her love for learning. We shall miss her joyful and enthusiastic spirit.
