Sister Mary Bertrand Denzlinger, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains, died on March 1, 2002 at Good Counsel. She was born on July 25, 1911 in Tivoli, New York, the daughter of William and Margaret McCabe Denzlinger. Sister Mary Bertrand entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1929, having attended St. Peter's Elementary School, Poughkeepsie, New York and Good Counsel Academy High School in White Plains. She received a B.S. degree from Good Counsel College. Sister Mary Bertrand began her long teaching career at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Elmsford, 1930-1931, St. Frances de Chantal School, Bronx, NY, 1931-1957, St. Lawrence O'Toole School, Brewster, NY, 1957-60. She returned to St. Frances in 1960 as a teacher and later in her career served as School Secretary/Librarian. In 1990 she retired from this long and fruitful career in Elementary School Eduation and took up residence at Good Counsel Convent. Sr. Alice Feeley, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, said: "As we mourn the loss of St. Mary Bertrand we remember her great love for her religious community and give thanks for the spirit of faithfulness with which she lived her life of dedicated service." Sr. Mary Bertrand is survived by the Sisters of the Divine Compassion and her cousin, Betty Desmarais of Virginia.
