Sr. Judith Henchey, RDC.

Sr. Mary Judith Henchey, RDC (Catherine) a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on December 12, 2019.

Sister was born in Woburn, MA in 1932 the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Cashman) Henchey. She attended Woburn Elementary School and St. Charles High School. Sister graduated from Good Counsel College with BA in English and Fairfield University receiving an MA in School Administration.

In her years in education Sister served as a teacher at St. Joseph's School, Croton Falls, NY and at St. John the Evangelist School in Mahopac, NY. In 1967 She was appointed Principal at St. John's and served in that position until 2001. She was dearly loved by the children and the parents. After finishing her responsibilities in the school Sister volunteered at the Food Pantry in the parish.

Sister Laura Donovan, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion said, "Sr. Mary Judith, was a strong, quick witted, quiet, prayerful and dedicated member of our community. In her many years of service in Putnam county she was a walking example of compassion in action. May she now enjoy the rewards of eternal life."

Sister Judith is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion, her brother, Rev. Joseph Henchey, CSS, S.T.D., her niece, Mary Judith Tierney, nephew Joseph Tierney and several grandnieces and nephews. Sister was predeceased by her brothers, James and William and her sisters, Elizabeth and Alice.
