Sister Mary Dorothea, RDC (Ann Power), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, passed away peacefully on February 13 after a long illness.

Sr. Dorothea was born in New Jersey in 1926 the daughter of Ralph Power and Mary McCarthy Power. Sister attended Good Counsel Academy High School and Good Counsel College where she earned a BA in English. Sister also received her MA in Education from Seton Hall University and her certification in Spiritual Direction from the Archdiocese of New York.

Sister’s teaching career began at Good Counsel Elementary School. She taught at St. Joseph’s in Croton Falls, and she served as principal at St. John’s in Mahopac, NY. Sister also served as a Pastoral Associate at St. Luke’s parish in Westport, CT. For many years she worked at Good Counsel Convent in the Infirmary and the Renewal Center. In her retirement years she was a faithful volunteer at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.

Sr. Laura Donovan, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, said, “As a true daughter of the Divine Compassion, Sr. Mary Dorothea lived the hopes of our Foundress, Mother Mary Veronica, who said “Sisters of the Divine Compassion must be deep-hearted, true-souled, strong, generous, earnest women.”

Sr. Mary Dorothea is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion, her nephew, Charles Power and his wife, Daniela, as well as many dear cousins and friends.
