Sister Constance Conroy, RDC, a former principal of the Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in White Plains, died February 16, 2001 at St. Agnes Hospital. She was 75, having served as a Mathematics and Science teacher of young people for more than 50 years. Born in White Plains in 1925, her parents were Mary T. Hannon Conroy and Thomas R. Conroy. Sister Constance entered the Divine Compassion congregation at Good Counsel on September 8, 1945. She received the BS Degree from the former Good Counsel College and an MST in Science and Mathematics from Fordham University. As a teacher par excellence, Sr. Constance did post-graduate work at Notre Dame and Pace University and developed computer expertise which she introduced to her students. Electronic Learning presented her with a 1987 Distinguished Achievememt Award for "outstanding leadership in the advancement of education through technology.' In 1989-1990 she received the outstanding Teacher Award as a Tandy Technology Scholar. Sister Constance began her teaching career at the former St. Bernard's School in White Plains, Preston High School in the Bronx 1949-1954 and Good Counsel Academy High School from 1954-2000. Sister Alice Feeley, president of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, said, "Sister Constance Conroy was an extraordinary and much loved classroom teacher and tutor who also taught by her bravery, joy, and faithfulness during a long struggle with illness." She is survived by Mrs. Irene Conroy and Mrs. Maureen Denver of Richland, Washington; a nephew, Daniel Denver and three nieces, Molly, Tammy and Katie Denver.
Visitation hour was at Good Counsel Convent on Sunday, February 18, 7-9 pm and Monday, February 19, 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February 20, at 10 am at the Chapel of the Divine Compassion. Interment was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
