Sr. Mary Clare Arenholz, RDC, (formerly known as Eleanor Arenholz), a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on March 29, 2020.

Sr. Clare was born in New York 1938, the daughter of James and Eleanor (Rechel) Arenholz.  She attended St. Frances de Chantal Elementary School and Preston High School in the Bronx. Sister received her BA from Good Counsel College in White Plains and her MA in Special Ed. from Seton Hall University.

Sister spent many years in education, beginning at Mt. Carmel School in Elmsford. She also taught at St. Lawrence O’Toole in Brewster and spent many years at St. Frances de Chantal School, first as a teacher and for many years, as a beloved Principal. Her final years in education were happily spent at Good Counsel Academy Elementary School as Principal.

Sister Laura Donovan, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion said, “Sr. Clare was a compassionate, devoted, generous, humble, prayerful member of our community. She put her whole self to any task set before her – she truly “put her hand to the plow and never looked back”. She will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace.”

Sister survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion, her brothers, James, Charles and Robert, her sisters, Joan McInerney, Eileen Demo, Mary Mulamphy and Patricia Stam.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister was predeceased by her sister, Anne Danielson.
