28th annual Divine Compassion Golf Classic

Monday, October 5, 2026

2026 Honoree

Compassion is going out of oneself in love for another. For as long as we have known
Mrs. Gwen Fisher, she has always been one of our most compassionate, genuine, loving and supportive friends. An exceptional woman, Gwen’s journey is one of achievement, devotion, and heartfelt generosity - true inspiration to all who know her.

It is with this in mind that the Sisters of the Divine Compassion are delighted to announce that we will honor Mrs. Gwen Fisher at the 2026 Divine Compassion Golf Classic & Dinner Reception on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Fenway Golf Club.

Gwen’s connection with the Sisters of the Divine Compassion exemplifies her deep commitment to community and friendship. Over a decade ago, she attended the RDC Golf Classic for the first time.  Since then, Gwen has not only hosted the event at Fenway Golf Club each year, she remains one of our most generous and supportive benefactors.  A member of the Mother Mary Veronica Legacy Society, Gwen’s kindness, compassion, and dedication to giving back has made a lasting impact on the lives of our Sisters.

Born in Boston, Gwen grew up in Michigan, where her early years were shaped by family, community and sports. Her father, a pioneering metallurgist, contributed groundbreaking work in titanium carbide, which helped to revolutionize the world of golf by transforming the design and performance of golf clubs.

Gwen fondly recalls family weekends at Washtenaw Country Club, where her parents’ dedication to golf inspired Gwen’s lifelong love for the game. Her mother was an excellent golfer, who encouraged Gwen to begin playing at age nine by participating in children’s tournament. Gwen quickly distinguished herself with her talent and determination to be successful at the game.

Gwen’s dedication to golf flourished throughout her life. She has celebrated a long and decorated career in the sport, winning over 40 championships and maintaining the record for most championships at Fenway.  Gwen has also served as president of the prestigious Women’s Tri-County Golf Association in New York, and won the Women’s Tri-County Golf Championship in 1997.

Beyond the accolades, what Gwen treasures most are the family-time and friendships she has cultivated through the sport. Her enduring friendship with our very own Sr. M. Cecile Larizza is a relationship born from spirited competition and mutual respect and maintained through decades of love and compassion.

Academically and professionally, Gwen is equally accomplished. A graduate of the University of Michigan, she served as a registered nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital, demonstrating compassion and excellence in patient care before moving to New York to join her late husband, Lester Fisher. Founder of Fisher Development Associates, Lester  and the Fisher family are known for their iconic projects and contributions throughout New York City, including Battery Park, the Intrepid and many more.

Gwen and Lester raised two wonderful sons, Casey and Kyle, who continue in their father’s footsteps and work in real estate development. Gwen cherishes life with her close-knit family. She is grateful for the precious time she and her husband, Lester, spent with their sons - finding joy in traveling, playing tennis and golf, and sharing countless happy times together.

Throughout the years, Gwen has balanced her family life with philanthropic efforts, supporting causes that span healthcare, education, the arts, and social welfare. When asked about being honored by the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, Gwen humbly reflects on the blessing of the Sisters’ friendship. “They are Angels on Earth,” Gwen stated.  “This recognition is not about me, it is about honoring the Sisters’ mission of compassion in service and love for others.”
