Blessing for the Day

Blessing for the Day

by Alice Feeley, RDC

May I awake,

may we awake

in thankfulness and memory

of constant stars still lighting what is dark,

believing that Your Spirit feeds

our hungers deep and scarcely known

our breath that will not end with me or us.

Keep me awake,

keep us awake

for the journey of this day

unclouded by expectation,

eyes sharp for surprise.

Close our distance from who we really are.

Remind us You are everywhere.

Teach me, teach us

to wait in silence

so love has space to enter in.

Gather what seems lost and shattered.

Shape the pieces for new light.

We will begin again.

Make us always willing.

Free us,

free me

from fear that grasps at

phantom futures.

In Your Presence

I am not invisible,

we are not made fools.

Lift me,

lift us

with the light touch of trust.

When suffering comes,

turn my eyes, turn our hands,

and all our hearts to compassion.

Set the table

where there’s always a place

for me, for them,

for us.

May I rest tonight knowing we are one.

May we rest tonight knowing we are one.

A new book of Poetry by Alice Feeley, RDC

Cloud Crossings is the third book of poems that

Sr. Alice Feeley, RDC has recently published.

This new set of poetry lightly touches upon various mainstays of Sister's life, but mainly speaks to her frequent visits to the natural and restored life at Wild Farm, an extensive farmland abutting the lush state forest in Danby, New York.

How Will We Find Our Way Home

Inspired by something her dear friend asked Sr. Alice the day before she passed away, the book is a collection of Sr. Alice’s poems written over a period of time, and often reflective of questions that creep into our ordinary lives as we make our way in the day’s challenging climate.

Walls Disappear

Alice Feeley was Poet Laureate for the Town of Greenburgh some years ago and had composed a poem about 9/11 honoring local residents at a ceremonial dedication of a wall in their honor.

Compassion Casts out Fear

We all know what it is to be afraid. Yet God’s voice in the Gospel is constant, “Do not be afraid,” “Fear not.” It is our hope that these reflections will help each of us hear and believe those words urging us to replace fear with an acknowledgment of God’s loving presence and will expand our capacity for compassion.

How It Was

City takeover. Enough blocks, enough ground
for eight hundred ninety six apartments,
all public housing.  I was a toddler
when we lost our family brownstone, still playing
in great grandfather’s garden...
